About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In a closely contested Bundesliga encounter, RB Leipzig emerged victorious with a 2-1 win over 1. FC Köln at the RheinEnergieStadion. The match, part of Gameweek 21, saw Leipzig continue their strong form, while Köln's struggles persisted. The game began with both teams showing intent, but it was RB Leipzig who struck first. Christoph Baumgartner opened the scoring in the 29th minute, giving the visitors a crucial lead. Köln responded after the break, with Jan Thielmann leveling the score in the 51st minute. However, Baumgartner was not done yet; he restored Leipzig's lead just five minutes later with his second goal of the match, proving to be the decisive factor. Tactically, both teams made several substitutions to try and influence the game. Köln brought on Marius Bülter and Luca Waldschmidt in an attempt to add fresh legs and creativity. Meanwhile, Leipzig's head coach opted for a more conservative approach, introducing Ridle Baku, Ezechiel Banzuzi, Conrad Harder, and Tidiam Gomis to maintain their lead and control the midfield. The result was somewhat expected given Leipzig's superior league position and form. Entering the match, Leipzig had been on a positive run, while Köln had struggled to find consistency. This victory solidifies Leipzig's position in the upper echelons of the Bundesliga table, while Köln remains in the lower half, needing to find form quickly to avoid slipping further. Post-match reactions highlighted Baumgartner's standout performance, with many praising his clinical finishing and ability to influence the game at crucial moments. The win keeps Leipzig in the hunt for European qualification, while Köln will need to regroup and strategize for their upcoming fixtures to climb the table.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
